About Us

The Commercial Inn is a centre of the community: a traditional pub where you are guaranteed good beer, good food and great company. We serve a large range of cask ale, wine and spirits in a comfortable lounge benefiting from a log fire in winter, and air conditioning in the summer. There is a games room, and major sporting events are shown on the large screens in the bar. Our customers can enjoy freshly prepared quality food in a separate dining room  (see Dining tab for details ). We often feature live music on Saturday nights, and also have a newly refurbished upstairs function room. New visitors (and their muddy pawed four legged friends!) are assured of a warm welcome. Come and join us!

History

The Commercial Inn has been a licensed premises since 1839 when James Collier was granted a licence for an alehouse on Cowbrook Meadow. It was later taken over by his daughter Lydia and son William, who brewed his own beer for sale in the bar. It remained in the family for many years, until taken over by Chesters brewery in 1872. It has been a place popular with locals and visitors to eat and drink for well over a century, and remains so to this day.
